You do not need to know whether the answer is a new circuit, subpanel, load-management device, panel replacement or full service upgrade. Start with what you want to add and we will help identify the right electrical path.

Your Project Comes First. The Panel Is Part of the Plan.

Most homeowners do not begin by deciding they need a panel upgrade. They begin with something they want to add or change. The electrical assessment determines whether the existing system can support that project and what work is required.

A Panel Upgrade Is Not Always the First Answer

The right solution depends on the equipment you are adding, how your home already uses electricity, the condition of the existing panel and how much capacity remains. We review the project before recommending a larger service.

And you don’t need to have the answer. We’ll assess what your home needs, explain the practical options and recommend the right path.

  • Use the Existing Capacity

The home may already have enough capacity for the planned equipment once the actual project requirements are reviewed.

  • Add a Circuit or Subpanel

A dedicated circuit or subpanel may organize and expand distribution without changing the size of the electrical service.

  • Use Load Management

Compatible energy-management equipment may allow certain electrical loads to share the home's available capacity.

  • Replace the Existing Panel

A panel may need replacement because of condition, compatibility, space or project requirements even when the service size remains the same.

  • Upgrade the Panel and Service

When the planned work cannot be supported safely and practically by the existing service, a coordinated panel and electrical-service upgrade may be recommended.

Know What to Expect Before Work Begins

The cost and timing of a panel or service upgrade depend on the home, the equipment being added and whether permits or BC Hydro work are required. We review the important details before quoting so you understand the proposed scope and any known dependencies.

  • What You Are Adding

The electrical requirements of an EV charger, heat pump, hot tub, suite, appliance or renovation help determine whether the existing system can support the project.

  • Your Existing Panel and Service

The service size, available breaker space, equipment condition and the home's current electrical use can change the recommended approach.

  • Property and Utility Requirements

The meter and panel locations, cable route and overhead or underground connection can affect the work required and whether BC Hydro coordination is needed.

  • Permits and Related Work

Permits, inspections and any required drywall, excavation, carpentry or equipment work should be identified before the project begins.

A panel replacement or service upgrade normally requires a planned power interruption. We will explain the expected work sequence and known scheduling dependencies before the installation date.

A Clear Path From Home Upgrade to Finished Electrical Work

  1. 01

Tell us what you want to add. Share the project, address, timing and any equipment specifications or photographs you already have.

  2. 02

We review the existing electrical system, including the panel, service, proposed equipment, available information and likely installation route.

  3. 03

We compare the practical options and confirm whether the project can use existing capacity, needs load management, requires a panel replacement or calls for a service upgrade.

  4. 04

We provide a written quote. It identifies the electrical scope, equipment assumptions, permits, utility coordination and known exclusions.

  5. 05

We obtain required electrical permits and coordinate with BC Hydro for applicable service upgrades.

  6. 06

We complete the approved installation, address required inspection items and leave the work area clean.

Plan the Upgrade Around the Home You Are Building Toward

  1. 01

    Project-Based Recommendations

The recommendation begins with what you want to add and how the home needs to function, not with a one-size-fits-all panel size.

  2. 02

    Clean Organized Workmanship

Panels, conductors and related equipment are installed and labeled neatly so the finished work looks intentional and remains serviceable.

  3. 03

    Future Needs Considered

Known near-term additions can be discussed during the assessment so today's work does not create avoidable rework later.

  4. 04

    Permits and BC Hydro Coordination

We handle required electrical permits and coordinate with BC Hydro for applicable panel and service upgrades.

  5. 05

    Clear Project Ownership

Our team stays accountable from assessment and quoting through scheduling, installation and completion, so you know who is responsible for the work.

  6. 06

    One-Year Workmanship Warranty

Completed workmanship is backed by a one-year workmanship warranty.

Installing a Home EV Charger

An EV Charger Does Not Automatically Mean a Service Upgrade

If your home is close to its available electrical capacity, an eligible EV power-management device may allow a Level 2 charger to be installed without upgrading the panel or electrical service. BC Hydro may provide eligible single-family home customers with a separate $200 rebate when an approved device is installed with an eligible Level 2 charger.

A Home Upgrade and EV Charger Completed Together

A Mission homeowner needed more electrical capacity as well as convenient charging at home. Sazegar Electric upgraded the service from 100 amps to 200 amps and installed an Autel home EV charger during the same two-day project.

The completed work was inspected and approved through Technical Safety BC, giving the home additional electrical capacity and reliable home charging.
